COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Identify a conflict situation and communicate in such a way that the conflict can be resolved in a constructive manner
LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE:

  • Literacy NQF Level 4

ESSENTIAL EMBEDDED KNOWLEDGE:
The difference between feelings and facts in a conflict situation, and an understanding of the need to deal with the feelings of the other person in order to handle and resolve the conflict

TEACHING METHODOLOGY:

  •  Interactive learning based on outcome-based education approaching
  •  Facilitation approach during classroom training
  •  Formative assessments during training incl. group work, role plays, demonstrations, pair work, debates, case studies Visual aids – the use of multiple visual aids are promoted incl. slides, whiteboard, flipchart, video, audio
  •  Questioning techniques used – open-ended questions, discussions, analyzing, comparisons, own opinions, conflict resolution, work-based examples, clarifications
  •  Assessments – formative assessments (during training), post assessments (building of Portfolio of Evidence and completing a Workplace Journal)

Learning unit 1: Different conflict situations in the workplace
Module 1: Different conflict situations that occur in the workplace
Module 2: Examples of conflict situations are given and the conflicts described
Module 3: Role-players in conflict situations
Module 4: Reasons why conflict occurs

Learning unit 2: Difference between feelings and actual problem
Module 1: Behaviour of different people in a conflict situation
Module 2: Own feelings when in a conflict situation
Module 3: Own behaviour when in a conflict situation
Module 4: The process of reaction in a conflict situation to solving the problem

Learning unit 3: Handle and resolve a conflict in the workplace
Module 1: Methods to resolve conflict
Module 2: Conflict situation and possible methods of resolving the conflict
